These Mysterious Photos Cannot Be Explained

Since photography was invented over 200 years ago, the technology has been used to capture stunning images that document the human condition and some of the most famous moments in modern history. However, it’s also been used to capture some inexplicable mysterious photos.

These images are all different, running the gamut of everything from UFOs and apparitions to religious figures and ancient beasts. However, one thing the share in common is – despite the best efforts of scientists and other experts – they simply can’t be sufficiently explained.

Michael Rockefeller?

Michael Rockefeller was the fifth child of New York Governor and future U.S. Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, he was presumed dead in 1961 when he mysteriously disappeared during an expedition in the Asmat region of southwestern Netherlands New Guinea, which is now a part of the Indonesian province of Papua.

The above image was captured 8 years later in 1969, of Papuan Cannibals along with a white man. Many believe that the man is Rockefeller who joined the Tribe.

The Unsolved Case Of Tara Leigh Calico

Tara Leigh Calico left on a bike ride one morning in September 1988. She told her mother to look for her on the bike route if she wasn’t home by noon.

The next time they saw her with an unidentified boy, both bound and gagged, in a polaroid picture found in a convenience store parking lot in Port St. Joe, Florida. Tara’s disappearance is still unsolved. No one knows what happened to them.

The Norway Spirals

The Norwegian spiral anomaly of 2009 appeared in the night sky over Norway. It was visible from, and photographed from, northern Norway and Sweden. The spiral consisted of a blue beam of light with a greyish spiral emanating from one end of it.

The light could be seen in all of Trøndelag to the south and all across the three northern counties which compose Northern Norway, as well as from Northern Sweden and it lasted for 10 minutes. According to sources, it looked like a blue light coming from behind a mountain, stopping in mid-air, and starting to spiral outwards.

Adam’s Peak Shadow at 7500 feet

This is a genuinely unexplained photo and phenomenon that happens every day at sunrise on a mountain in Sri Lanka called Adams Peak. The mountain forms a PERFECTLY triangular, shadow even though the shape of the mountain itself isn’t one.

Adam’s Peak is mostly seen as a sacred place for all religious groups. On the top, the peak treasures a big rock that carries a huge footprint that is believed to be Lord Buddhas in Buddhist tradition, Sri Rama’s in Hindu mythology, and prophet Adam’s in Christian and Islamic beliefs.

A Reddit User Discovers Something Odd In His Friend’s Attic Photo

“A friend of mine took this picture in the attic of an abandoned house (EDIT: in the town) where she lives, nobody had noticed until she showed me the pictures of the house. Look at the bench on the left.”

If you look closely, you can pretty clearly see what looks to be the face of a young boy. Either that or somehow it’s just the absolute perfect coloration to the slats on the side of the roof.

A Leaked UFO Photo Captured by an F18 Pilot

In 2020 a mysterious object was captured on camera by the pilot of an F18 fighter jet. Many have dismissed the photo as clearly just a balloon — with some going so far as to say a Batman balloon in particular.

This theory doesn’t appear to hold up in the eyes of the Department of Defense, who’ve stated that the UFO displayed flight dynamics uncharacteristic of a balloon. In fact, it was completely and totally stationary in the presence of ambient air currents that would’ve blown it around, like — well, a baloon.

Several have noted that Julius Obsequens, a Roman writer from the 4th-5th centuries, wrote of a flying shield appearing and zooming across the sky. Exactly what was spotted is still a complete and total mystery that’s unlikely to be solved any time soon.

A Reddit user left his new camera on while he visited a pub

The Reddit user posted this photo, stating “My friend bought a new camera and left it on charge when he was at the pub with me. It sent him this notification that motion was detected back at his home – I’ve told him to burn his house. What could it be?”

Zooming in on the image it’s clear that a person is standing over what appears to be a (fortunately) empty bed. It was revealed by the original poster that the owner of the house in question has a huge dog and lives basically in the middle of nowhere. No resolution or more information was ever provided.

A Mysterious bag with 53 human hands appears on Russian island near China’s border

An investigation has been initiated by Russian authorities following the discovery of a mysterious bag containing 54 severed human hands at a popular fishing spot near the Siberian city of Khabarovsk, as reported by the Siberian Times.

The unsettling find began with the sighting of a single hand, eventually leading to the discovery of the bag on an island in the Amur River, approximately 20 miles from the Chinese border.

The motive behind the dismemberment and the identity of the individuals to whom the hands belonged remain unclear. Authorities are conducting fingerprint analysis on at least one hand, as reported by the Siberian Times.

Alongside the severed hands, local media noted the presence of medical bandages and hospital-style plastic shoe covers near the remains.

Goddard’s Squadron Photograph Of Freddy Jackson

Air mechanic Freddy Jackson was killed accidentally by an airplane propeller in 1919. Days after his death, his squadron took a group photo together.

After the film was developed, they discovered the impossible: Freddy’s image in the photo with them. Legend has it that Freddy’s ghost was unaware of his own death and showed up to take the photograph with his squadron. Spooky!

Hessdalen Lights: Alien or Natural Phenomenon?

The Hessdalen lights are unidentified lights which have been observed in a 12-kilometre-long (7.5 mi) stretch of the Hessdalen valley in rural central Norway periodically since at least the 1930s.

Many hypothesize that the lights in this photo were due to UFOs or extraterrestrials. To this day, there is no scientific reasoning behind the mysterious color scheme present in this photo.

Creepy Grand Canyon Photo

A Reddit user posted the above photo, with the following story attached to it.

“This is about my Uncle. I think it was the late 70s or 80s; I cant remember which, but my uncle is old hes like 50 now. Anyway he took a trip to the Grand Canyon with his friends. They were driving along the grand canyon and stopped near this area with hedges/brush on the side of the canyon and decided to take one of your standard funny Grand Canyon pictures. They had a really funny idea; my uncle was to stand on the side of the canyon with a fishing rod and pretend to fish off the side of the canyon.

So they ended up taking the picture, and shortly after packed up and drove off. So they took the roll to be developed and when they saw the picture they noticed something very strange. In the picture, not far behind my Uncle, was a man dressed in all black with pale white skin standing there in the brush just staring at the camera with a knowing smirk on his face.”

McMinnville UFO photographs

The McMinnville UFO photographs, also known as the Trent UFO photos, were taken by a farming couple, Paul and Evelyn Trent near McMinnville, Oregon, United States on May 11, 1950.

The photos were reprinted in Life magazine and in newspapers across the nation, and are often considered to be among the most famous photographs ever taken of a UFO.

This bizarre photo, captured in 1941, shows two men with modern-day cameras at the re-opening of South Forks Bridge in Canada. But how they got their hands on them in 1941 remains a mystery. Perhaps there’s a DeLorean just out of frame?

Well, allegedly. NASA has always claimed that one of the pictures, (the first one) is simply a blank from the Apollo 17 film magazine 136-Hotel.

The Battle of Los Angeles

In February 1942, a barrage of anti-aircraft fire lit up the night sky over Los Angeles, California. Authorities at the time claimed it was a false alarm, and several years later claimed it was due to a weather balloon. However, that hasn’t stopped numerous theories popping up, with claims ranging from a Japanese attack to a UFO invasion.

Naga Fireballs

Naga Fireballs, sometimes also referred to as the Mekong Lights, or more commonly known as the “Ghost Lights” are the strange natural phenomena with unconfirmed sources seen on the Mekong River in Thailand and Laos.

Glowing reddish balls are alleged to naturally rise from the water high into the air. The fireballs are most often reported around the night in late October. There are many who have attempted to scientifically explain the Naga fireballs but none of them has been able to put forth any strong conclusion.

Utah monolith

The Utah monolith is a metal pillar that stood in a red sandstone slot canyon in northern San Juan County, Utah, United States.

The pillar is 3 m (9.8 ft) tall and made of metal sheets riveted into a triangular prism. It was unlawfully placed on public land between July and October 2016; it stood unnoticed for over four years until its discovery and removal in late 2020. The identity of its makers is unknown, as are their objectives.

The Face On Mars

Does Mars have a face? Or is this just an anomaly that people think looks like one of the Great Pyramids? This photo originate from 1976, when NASA had its first aircraft reach Mars.

The Viking I Orbiter took a photograph that makes it appear that a human face is embedded in an enormous mountain. NASA released other photos to explain that it was mere perspective that caused it to look like a human head.

The Phoenix Lights

On March 13, 1997, a series of bright unidentified lights appeared over the city of Phoenix, Arizona and remained there, completely stationary, for hours. The Air Force said that the lights were flares dropped for a training exercise. However, the lights reappeared over Phoenix in 2007 and 2008. They still have not been explained.

The map was drawn and signed by Turkish cartographer Hagji Ahmed Muhiddin Piri , aka Piri Reis, and is dated to 1513 AD. Reis was an admiral in the Turkish navy, an experienced sailor, and a cartographer, who claimed to have used 20 source maps and charts to construct the map, including 8 Ptolemaic maps, 4 Portuguese maps, an Arabic map, and a map by Christopher Columbus.

Since its discovery, the Piri Reis map has stirred both intrigue and controversy, mostly due to the presence of what appears to be a representation of Antarctica 300 years before it was discovered. Another—if not even more intriguing facet of the appearance of Antarctica—is that it appears to show the land mass before it was covered in ice, over 6000 years ago.

Pyramid on Mars

Nasa’s Curiosity Rover has captured images of a perfectly formed pyramid on Mars and conspiracy theorists reckon it’s proof of an alien civilization.

The pyramid is thought to be about the size of a car, and most people believe it’s nothing more than a coincidental rock formation.

However, the YouTube channel ParanormalCrucible goes further, insisting the “near perfect design and shape” means the pyramid is: “the result of intelligent design and certainly not a trick of light and shadow”.

The Death Of Mary Reeser

This chilling photo of the remains of Mary Reeser cannot be explained. Mary Reeser died in 1951. When police found her body in her home, where she lived alone, they recovered one leg and a heap of ash. Scientists could not explain what happened to Reeser. The rest of the house had not burned down.

Dean Corll – The Serial Killer

Dean Corll aka the ‘Candy Man’ was a serial killer who abducted, tortured, and killed 28 young boys between 1970 and 1973. However, 40 years later in 2012, a mysterious photo of a terrified handcuffed boy was recovered from Corll’s accomplice possession.

The photograph was a scary one. It was even more horrifying when it was found out that the boy was not one of the original 28.

The Unsolved Hinterkaifeck Murders

The murder of six people that happened at the Hinterkaifeck farmstead in Germany during 1922 shocked the world not only because the crime was gruesome but because the case was weird and remains unsolved even today.

Rumor has it that the place was haunted while some believe that the murderers stayed at the farm and performed day-to-day chores. However, neither were the murderers ever found nor was any motive established despite the fact that more than 100 people were interviewed.

The photo uploaded below, however, is authentic and depicts one of the victims.

Elisa Lam’s Death and Mysterious Video

In January 2013, a 21-year old student Elisa Lam, who was staying at Hotel Cecil in Los Angeles, went missing and her body was found two weeks later by the maintenance in the hotel’s water tank. It was deemed as an accidental death until the CCTV footage surfaced showing some bizarre occurrences like elevator door not working.

Despite repeated efforts from Lam, the deceased student cornering herself as if letting someone pass, but no one is in the picture, then the elevator door returning to its normal operation as soon as Lam gets out.

Moreover, the roof was barricaded, and it wasn’t possible to get up there at the tank, and someone updated Lam’s blog six months later.

Movement On Mars

The question about life on Mars still hasn’t been answered, and there have been many debates on this topic because of the lack of oxygen that prevents life from flourishing. However, when the Mars rover took an image 3,528 days into its mission, nothing could be noted.

When the same picture was taken just 12 days later, something had changed. The rock in the center of the formation wasn’t there before and somehow appeared randomly. How did it get there when there is no life on the planet?

Stone spheres in Costa Rica

The stone spheres of Costa Rica are an assortment of over 300 petrospheres in Costa Rica, on the Diquís Delta and on Isla del Caño. Locally, they are also known as bolas de piedra (literally stone balls). The spheres are commonly attributed to the extinct Diquís culture, and they are sometimes referred to as the Diquís Spheres.

They are thought to have been placed in lines along the approach to the houses of chiefs, but their exact significance remains uncertain. According to some archaeologists’ hypothesis the spheres could represent solar systems or just be inspired by various stages of the sun and the moon as viewed with the naked eye, including setting or rising suns, and half moons.

Antikythera mechanism

The Antikythera mechanism is an Ancient Greek hand-powered orrery, described as the oldest known example of an analogue computer used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses decades in advance. This artefact was among wreckage retrieved from a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island Antikythera in 1901.

It is still the most sophisticated device ever found from that period, preceding the next appearance of similar devices by 1,000 years.

Nazca lines

From the ground, the Nazca Lines of Peru are nothing spectacular. However, seen from the air, from which they were first spotted by commercial aircraft in the 1920s and 30s, they are staggering.

Archaeologists agree the enormous shapes there are hundreds of them, ranging from geometric lines to complicated depictions of animals, plants and imaginary figures were made over 2,000 years ago by people of the pre-Inca Nazca culture, who simply removed the red surface pebbles to reveal the lighter earth below in designs of their choice.

Just why they did it remains enigmatic, prompting conspiracy theorists to float ideas about alien landings and ancient astrology. The lines were more likely to have been a ritual communication method with the Nazca’s deities, say archaeologists.

Fairy Circles

Walk through the grasslands of Namibia, and you might come across a strange and unsettling sight. Throughout the dry fields, clusters of the arid grass form in circles around patches of ground in which nothing seems to grow.

Various explanations have been offered, some supernatural—others, scientific, and while most likely explanation involves the grass creating this formation naturally as a means of managing its water economy, no conclusive explanation has yet been put forward.

Naka Cave

In the Phu Langka National Park in Thailand, a cave can be found that looks a whole lot like a petrified snake. One large stone slab looks like the head of the python, while the base of the cave is made of stones that resemble scales on a coiling snake body.

In Buddhism, legends are told of Naga—a half-human and half-snake creature. According to myths, this rock serpent is said to possibly be one of the Naga kings that helped create the land formations that make up Thailand.

Houska Castle

Old buildings always hold a lot of history and mystery. Who lived there, who might be haunting the walls, you name it! But this one is not like the others.

Perhaps this building really was created to cover a bottomless pit filled with demons? One thing’s for sure—we certainly wouldn’t want to be taking a trip anywhere near this haunted castle any time soon.

Ice Age Rock Paintings

The Amazon rainforest is known for being the world’s largest tropical rainforest, but deep within it, an 8-mile-long canvas covered with Ice Age drawings of extinct animals was discovered.

Early settlers of the region recorded what they saw on the rock, and now the cliff has thousands of drawings. The drawings are very detailed and they date back to between 11,800 years and 12,600 ago. The site has even been dubbed the “Sistine Chapel of the ancients”.

The Beale Ciphers

In 1820, Thomas J. Beale hid a vast amount of treasure in Virginia. Beale handed a box to an innkeeper he was acquainted with, instructing him to open if only if he did not hear from him in the next ten years. Beale then disappeared, and 20 years later, the innkeeper opened the box and found three sheets of paper inside, containing what looked like a code.

The innkeeper turned to James B. Ward who dedicated himself to decoding the texts, and, after 20 years, decoded the second of the three numbered scripts. It disclosed that Beale had hid a vault, the owners of which were disclosed in the undeciphered text #3, and exact location of which was in #1.

Unable to decipher the two other leaflets, Ward eventually decided to sell a pamphlet containing the story and the code and enlist the help of the public. The codes have never been broken.

The Mars Monolith

The Mars monolith is a rectangular object discovered on the surface of Mars. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter took pictures of it from orbit, roughly 180 miles (300 km) away. The HiRISE camera that was used to photograph the monolith has a resolution of approximately 1 foot or 30 centimeters per pixel.

Many have pointed out that this structure looks like it’s not natural.

A Reddit User’s Wedding Photo Discovery

A user on Reddit posted the above photo stating that the man in the background at their mother’s wedding is a completely unknown person.

“One of my friend’s discovered this picture of her mom at a wedding. No one had realized the man’s face in the mirror to the right of the women until she pointed it out. No one knows who he is or saw him at the wedding at all. Maybe it’s just a weird coincidence but freaky nevertheless.”

Max Headroom signal hijacking

On the night of November 22, 1987, the television signals of two stations in Chicago, Illinois, were hijacked, briefly sending a pirate broadcast of an unidentified person wearing a Max Headroom mask and costume to thousands of home viewers.

The first incident took place during the sports segment of independent TV station WGN-TV’s 9:00 p.m. newscast. Like the later signal intrusion, it featured a person wearing a mask swaying erratically in front of a swiveling corrugated metal panel, apparently meant to resemble Max Headroom’s animated geometric background. Unlike the later intrusion, the only sound was a loud buzz. This interruption went on for almost 17 seconds before engineers at WGN were able to regain control of their broadcast tower.

The Alleged Castle on the Moon

This extraordinary object comes from AS10-32-4822, an Apollo hand held Hasselblad photo. The “Castle” is extremely bright and plainly visible at normal magnification, making it nearly impossible for the astronaut taking the picture to have missed it.

This UNENHANCED version of it shows the remarkable stacking of it’s segments and belies a natural explanation, especially when you consider it is hanging several miles high in the Lunar sky. EM enhancements show a supporting structure, including a drooping cable passing through the tip, like a suspension bridge.

A Mystery Hand In a Reddit User’s Photo

A Reddit user posted the above photo, saying “This photo taken of me and some friends has been freaking me out lately. It was taken 3 1/2 years ago and I didn’t notice something freaky in it until about a year ago. My friend actually pointed it out. WHO’S HAND IS BEHIND MY HEAD?!! You will notice there’s not an arm on the other side of my head.. Now. What’s really freaky is I was skyping with a friend and he randomly just freaked out and was saying something about a “weird, orange” hand behind my head.

I texted my friend about it because I figured she would have gotten a laugh out of it. She just so happened to be the friend that pointed out the floating hand behind my head and asked if it looked like that. I showed the guy the picture and he freaked out even more and said that that was EXACTLY what he saw. He had never seen the photo before.”

The Atacama Skeleton

Ata is the common name given to the 6-inch (15 cm) long skeletal remains of a human fetus found in 2003 in a deserted Chilean town in the Atacama Desert. DNA analysis done in 2018 on the premature human fetus identified unusual mutations associated with dwarfism and scoliosis, though these findings were later disputed.

The remains were found by Oscar Muñoz, who later sold them; the current owner is Ramón Navia-Osorio, a Spanish businessman

The Dyatlov Pass Incident

9 experienced mountaineers succumb to mysterious deaths on ‘Dead Mountain’. The picture above was taken by the rescue crew. The tent had been ripped open from the inside, and the hikers had run barefoot out into heavy snow. A search operation found most of the victims between 300 and 600 metres of a nearby cedar, dying in poses that suggest they were attempting to return to the tent.

6 of the hikers died of hypothermia, but three died of fatal injuries; two with major chest fractures and one with major skull damage and a missing tongue. There was no sign of a struggle and no unexplained footprints. The strangest part of all this is that items of clothing worn by the hikers that were examined in the investigation were found to be highly radioactive. The official investigation wrote that ‘A compelling natural force’ was the cause of deaths.

NASA’s Curiosity rover MastCam on Aug 14 2014 spotted what some to believe is a thigh bone

The Curiosity rover, operated by NASA, has reportedly identified what some oddity enthusiasts suggest resembles a “fossilized thigh bone” on Mars. UFO bloggers have claimed that the rover’s MastCam captured an image of this intriguing feature on August 14.

NASA has vehemently denied that it could be anything other than a pile of rocks, but many like to keep their imagination open to the fact that something else could be going on entirely.

The Solway Firth Spaceman Mystery

This photo, taken in 1964, looks like there is a man in a space suit standing behind photographer Jim Templeton’s daughter.

Some say it is just her mother in the background that is washed out by lighting and shadows. Regardless, this photo has been the subject of UFO theorists for decades.

The Backseat Driver

This isn’t any old backseat driver. No, it’s not your annoying boyfriend telling you the ins and outs of the highway code; or your grandmother berating your driving skills; it’s far scarier.

The story goes that in 1959, Mabel Chinnery, the wife of the man seen driving, was visiting her mother’s grave when she decided to get out and take a photo of her husband. But it’s the mysterious man in the back that really caught her attention, especially considering they’re in a graveyard…

The Old Lady and Her Husband

Retirement homes are sad places and are perhaps only surpassed by hospitals and hospices in regards to their depressing realities. After all, many of their residents have loved and lost, while others look back at how it used to be.

But according to one elderly lady, her daily dose of nostalgia came in the form of her husband’s ghost. Even her family have sworn that no man was present when the photo was captured. Either that or they have terrible memories…

Lone Survivor

In this stunning photo, a woman can be seen standing on a piece of debris waving frantically for help after the tragic events of 9/11. Evidently, she miraculously survived the initial attack, but what happened after remains shrouded in mystery.

A Church Ghost

On an outing to Worstead Church in Norfolk, England, Peter Berthelot took a photo of his wife, Diane, praying on one of the church benches. Nothing ‘paranormal’ about that, right? Well, that was until Peter got the film developed.

It was then that they spotted a haunting ashen clad lady lurking behind Diane. Predictably, the married couple were shocked and took the photo to the local vicar. It was then that they were informed of the ‘White Lady’ ghost, who locals believe was once a healer.

Speaking to the Daily Express, Mrs. Bethelot believes the ghost’s healing practices rubbed off on her. “I always felt it was a blessing because my whole life seemed to change after we realized the White Lady had sat behind me. It inspired me to write poetry.”

Disapperance of Lisanne Froon & Kris Kremers

Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon were Dutch students who disappeared while hiking the El Pianista trail in Panama. Ten weeks later a backpack containing their phones and a camera were found.

The women’s phones showed that around six hours into their hike someone dialed emergency services. Also discovered were 90 photos dating up to a week after they were lost. Two months later, 33 widely scattered bones belonging to the missing girls were discovered near the backpack.

An 1800’s iPhone

Art fans have been left convinced of “time travel” after spotting what they’re claiming to be an “iPhone” in a piece of art from 1882.

The 19th-century image shows the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns holding a rectangular item in a piece of art by the artists R. Josey and James Archer.

The Staircase Ghost

On the topic of ghosts, a retired clergymen from British Columbia got more than he bargained for when holidaying in London, England. One of Reverend Ralph Hardy’s excursions included a trip to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.

Enamored by the staircase in the Queen’s House section, Hardy took the picture and thought nothing of it… until the film developed. Thus, instead of the elegant staircase, an image depicting a climbing ghost stole the picture’s thunder. Even today, experts are dumbfounded.

Scream From the Future?

It’s not hard to spot. In fact, the grim reaper like figure caught on camera by the local reverend bears a similar resemblance to Kevin Williamson’s fictional murderer in the movie Scream. The story goes that the minister saw nothing scary or mysterious when he took the photos… until he got the pictures developed.

Heard that one before, right? So you’d think the most likely case of this ‘ghostly’ figure would have been an obvious result of double exposure? But that theory was soon dispelled by experts analyzing the photo, who then estimated the figure to be over 9 foot tall! Whether it said “O.M.G,” however, is still a mystery…

Our Lady of Zeitoun

In 1968, a bus mechanic saw what he thought was a woman preparing to jump from the roof of St. Mary’s Coptic Church in the Zeitoun district of Cairo, Egypt. When help rushed to the roof, they found no one there.

For the next two years, the seemingly glowing apparition of the Virgin Mother appeared on the Church’s roof several times a week. The phenomenon has never been properly explained, despite the thousands of photos that were taken across 1968 and ’69.

‘Ground Control to Major Tom’

We can hear you asking, “What’s s weird about this photo? It’s just a landscape with a light in the distance…”

Well, this image was taken on Mars, which changes things just a little bit.

The “Skunk Ape”

The creature in this photo, given the nickname “Skunk Ape”, was captured on a film by a Florida woman in the year 2000.

This photo was taken on the surface of the moon during the Apollo14 Mission. This photo clearly shows a weird blue light located miles away that should not be there.
There’s a series of photos [AS14-66-9290, AS14-66-9293, AS14-66-9294, AS14-66-9295, AS14-66-9296, AS14-66-9297, AS14-66-9299, AS14-66-9301, AS14-66-9320, AS14-66-9339, AS14-66-9345, AS14-66-9346, AS14-66-9348] that show such “blue lights” in one place or more.

Some claim these are lens flares of the camera. While others put forth some conspiracy theories including extraterrestrial objects, UFO or even NASA’s dark secrets behind these photos.

The Martian Spherules

In 2004, the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity had already detected curious blueberry-shaped microscopic formations in the Martian soil. But a much stranger picture was taken by Opportunity at the end of 2012, depicting bigger spherules in larger numbers.

Suggested to be made of hematite a possible sign of the past presence of water, scientists are still uncertain of what these things might be.

The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall is a ghost that reportedly haunts Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England. It became one of the most famous hauntings in the United Kingdom when photographers from Country Life magazine claimed to have captured its image. The “Brown Lady” is so named because of the brown brocade dress it is claimed she wears.

In 2009 a photograph surfaced on the internet that appeared to show a young boy with his mother and grandmother in 1959. Startlingly, there was also a body hanging down from the ceiling on the edge of the photo.

The story goes that the Copper family moved into a new home and they did not notice the creepy entity until the picture was developed. Some people believe this is a hoax and that the photo below was used to mash the two pictures together.

This is one of the most famous unexplained images of all time. While the focus of the picture is on Mary, something creepy hovers above her left shoulder. There’s an object that appears to be some sort of UFO hovering above the cliffs. Just below it you can see a man and his dog looking up at the saucer.

The Gridded Burn Pattern Across Michalak’s Chest

It happened on 20th May 1967 when Stefan Michalak was in the woods near Falcon Lake, Manitoba, Canada. He saw two cigar-shaped UFOs land close to his house. The door of one of the crafts opened. Michalak heard voices. He approached the door of the craft. He couldn’t make out anything inside.

Michalak just saw what he described to be a “maze of lights.” Shortly, the aircraft’s door closed. The object began to rise. It expelled a flame of hot air at Michalak. It caused his shirt to erupt in flames. When he was hospitalized, the doctors saw a gridded burn pattern all across his chest. It is visible in this photo.

Thus far there have been no natural explanations of this chilling shot snapped by the Reverend K.F. Lord in 1963. This shot was taken in the interior of North Yorkshire’s Newby Church. Although most ghost pictures can be easily explained and are a result of double exposures or other trickery, this one has a different story altogether.

As you can spot, there is a spectral figure wearing a cowl and standing by the altar. Multiple experts examined it, but no explanations could be given. Lord swears that there were no people in the church when he took the shot. This photograph is regarded as the most famous paranormal photograph of all time.

This one is regarded as one of the most famous religious apparitions of all time. The Lady of Zeitoun was observed for a staggering two-year period from 1968.

A Muslim bus mechanic first spotted it. However, the glowing form of the Virgin Mary was mistaken as a woman who was about to jump from the Church St. Mary’s roof. The investigation was taken up by the police.

However, they found nobody on the roof. The glowing ghost of Jesus’s mother continued to appear multiple times a week. It was photographed many times. No real explanation for the cause of the phenomenon could be given.

A Bizarre Ghostly Figure

It was 1975 when Diane and Peter Berthelot visited the Worstead Church in Norfolk, UK. At the church, Peter took a photograph of his wife sitting and praying on one of the church benches.

When the film got developed, they saw a bizarre ghostly figure sitting behind Diane. They went back to the church and inquired the local vicar who told them it was the ghost of the White lady who haunted the church.

After these teens posed for a picture in the woods, they looked at the photo and realized there was a dark figure standing in the background. If that won’t make you run for your life, we don’t know what will.

The Royal Ghost

If you know Hampton Court, you will know that this royal residence is heavily guarded. Although visitors are allowed to roam around, they are very rarely left alone to explore the grounds. Therefore, the guards were startled by this occurrence.

When a door opened and closed, the guards lept into action because they thought they saw a figure walking around. However, when they arrived on the scene, they couldn’t find anyone except for this ghostly figure on the security tapes.

The Spooklight in Missouri

The Spook Light, often referred to as the Joplin Spook Light or the Tri-State Spook Light, is actually in Oklahoma near the small town of Quapaw. However, it is most often seen from the east, which is why it has been “attached” to the tiny hamlet of Hornet, Missouri, and the larger, better-known town of Joplin.

According to the legend, the spook light was first seen by Indians along the infamous Trail of Tears in 1836; however, the first “official” report occurred in 1881 in a publication called the Ozark Spook Light.

The ball of fire, described as varying from the size of a baseball to a basketball, dances and spins down the center of the road at high speeds, rising and hovering above the treetops, before it retreats and disappears. Others have said it sways from side to side, like a lantern being carried by some invisible force. In any event, the orange fire-like ball has reportedly been appearing nightly for well over 100 years. According to locals, the best time to view the spook light is between the hours of 10:00 pm and midnight and tends to shy away from large groups and loud sounds.

Though many paranormal and scientific investigators have studied the light, including the Army Corps of Engineers, no one has been able to provide a conclusive answer as to the origin of the light.

Bruno Hauptmann’s Post-Mortum Photo Appearance.

Watford, UK resident Karen Collette was taking her family on a day trip to London in the fall of 1983. They’d climbed aboard the Bakerloo Line train when her nephew asked if she would snap a picture of him.

Strangely, the image in the window was found to be an exact match for a figure from Madame Tussauds wax museum’s Chamber of Horrors located in London, England. The figure in question was that of Bruno Hauptmann [1899-1936], famous for being convicted for the kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindburgh’s baby boy in 1932.

In 1948, an unidentified deceased man was found on an Australian beach with a ripped page of an ancient Persian poetry book. He has still never been identified.

Following a public appeal by police, the book from which the page had been torn was located. On the inside back cover, detectives read through indentations left from previous handwriting: a local telephone number, another unidentified number, and text that resembled a coded message. The text has not been deciphered or interpreted in a way that satisfies authorities on the case.

Since the early stages of the police investigation, the case has been considered “one of Australia’s most profound mysteries”. There has been intense speculation ever since regarding the identity of the victim, the cause of his death, and the events leading up to it.

Public interest in the case remains significant for several reasons: the death occurred at a time of heightened international tensions following the beginning of the Cold War; the apparent involvement of a secret code; the possible use of an undetectable poison; and the inability or unwillingness of authorities to identify the dead man.

The disappearance of Daylenn Pua

On Feb 27th 2015 Daylenn Pua set out to go hiking on a closed trail in Hawaii known as “The stairway to heaven”. This is the last photo he sent to family and appears to show a man following him. His body was never found.

People familiar with the area are entirely perplexed — as this isn’t a remote destination. In fact the entrance is a suburban neighborhood that’s located right above the town. The hike he was on was in fact very dangerous. One false step could turn into a fatal one.

The Cadborosaurus

This gem of a story dates back to 1907 when nine fishermen caught a giant sea monster that they claimed was a Cadborosaurus. However, the Cadborosaurus is a creature whose existence – like the Yeti or Loch Ness sea monster – is often disputed, and many simply saw this photo as nine bored men with too much time on their hands.

But what throws that common thought in doubt are the plethora of scientists who have since tried but failed to determine what kind of creature it is. Surely, then, researchers who assessed it would have noticed if it were indeed fake? I guess we’ll never know.

Now this is pretty cool! Taking you back to 2008, a team of Chinese archeologists were left flabbergasted when they opened a tomb in Shangsi County- a tomb that had been undisturbed for a reported 400 years! But it wasn’t the geological rock structures that dazzled them.

Instead, it was a tiny golden wristwatch that really caught their eyes.But was it part of an elaborate well-crafted hoax set up from the night before? Or was it – as many believe – the lost property of a forgetful time traveler?

A Baby Ghost?

Okay, this is just plain spooky! The supposed ‘ghost’ was caught on camera in 1945 when an Australian mother took a photo of her late daughter’s grave. Though when the film developed, a picture of a mystified-looking baby appeared.

The scariest part? In 1990, a paranormal researcher investigated the graveyard only to discover that the bodies of two infant girls were buried in a nearby grave.

The 15 Inch Finger

In 1985, photographer Gregor Sporri snapped this image of a mummified finger that he claimed to have been shown by a grave robber. The appendage measured 15 inches long.

If you do the math, that long of a finger would have had to come from a the body of someone at least 12 feet tall. In the more than 30 years since, experts have been unable to either confirm or debunk the photo.

However, there’s no evidence of a woman ever being up there anytime near when the photo was taken.

Vladimir Putin?

In 1988, President Ronald Reagan made a trip to Moscow and went to visit Red Square. While shaking hands with a young boy, the president had his picture snapped by White House photographer, Peter Souza.

Souza insists that the blond, nerdy-looking nearby is none other than a young Vladimir Putin. Who later became one of the most famous KGB spies ever. There is no confirmation about this photo from the Kremlin. Still, it remains a mystery whether the nerdy man is Putin or not.

Woman in White

Also known as the “Woman in White” or the “White Lady”, she first appeared in a photograph taken by a group of paranormal investigators exploring the cemetery in 1979. She was described as wearing a hooded robe and carrying a baby in her arms.

In later sightings, she wore only a white dress and often wandered the graveyard without the baby. Legend says she’s looking for someone or something though it’s never specified who or what.

Her most famous appearance was in a 1991 infrared photograph in which she sits on a headstone at the north side of the cemetery, gazing out at the fence and trees beyond. It was taken by the Oak Lawn Ghost Research Society and became quite popular at the time.

It may look like a classic photo of kids being kids, but if you take a second look, you might notice that one thumb appears out of place.

It’s impossible to work out what body it belongs to, and ever since the photo went viral, the internet has been awash with theories. Even the photographer has no idea.

The most beautiful suicide

What pushed the beautiful Evelyn McHale to jump to her death from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, we may never know. But the intriguing thing is, for someone who fell from such an enormous height, her body remained strangely intact.

Robert Wiles, the photographer who took this now-iconic picture of McHale’s body was shocked by how normal McHale looked, almost like she was sleeping instead of dead from a life-ending injury.

Snuggling with a ghost

When two siblings visited a graveyard late at night (while intoxicated), they took a picture of the brother lying down atop a grave.

When the film was developed, the brother and sister were chilled by the realization that a ghostly figure seemed to be hovering above the brother, probably politely asking him to get off his grave.

There is a woman who appears to be talking on a mobile phone which looks perfectly normal. The odd thing, however, is that mobile phones wouldn’t exist for several more decades.

A UFO in a 16th-century painting?

Painted sometime in the 16th century, this painting can be found on the wall of a 14th-century church in Sighișoara, Romania. Sighișoara is believed to be the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, on whom the Count Dracula legend is based.

What strikes many as confusing about this artistic work is the silver disc seen hovering in the clouds. While some believe it may be an attempt at religious imagery, others claim that it’s clearly a flying saucer.

A Grim Reaper in the midst of touch football

To everyone’s shock, a mysterious, haunting figure clothed in all black appeared in the photo. Perhaps he was wanting to play too?

Dumbo The Flying Elephant

We would love to sit here and imagine what it would be like if elephants could fly and lay eggs, but that is not the world we live in. It’s shocking that the tree hasn’t broken under the weight of the baby elephant, but it is even more surprising that it got up there in the first place.

We have never seen an elephant climb anything, so it would be surprising to find out how it got in the nest. Did a giant bird swoop it off the ground and put her there? We may never know how it got there, but we will never forget that there was an elephant in a bird’s nest.

Nowhere To Sit

For size comparison, the man at the bottom is probably of average height, and this is how small he looks compared to the pile of chairs. The thing is, we don’t know where all these chairs came from or how they got piled so high.

Have you ever seen so many chairs grouped together? None of them look broken, so it’s hard to believe they were disposed of so easily. We hope they aren’t going to be destroyed because that would be a waste of wood and perfectly fixable chairs.
